The Body Shop Born Lippy

The Body Shop Born Lippy

The Body Shop is one of those stores that I avoid on principle. It’s so popular, everybody loves it, and that’s what keeps me away. My anti-sheepism personality just gets in the way. I can’t help it. But.. Sometimes, just sometimes, the addiction gets the best of me, and I’m sucked into a store to browse their selection of lip balm, no matter how much I try to stay away. Recently, this was the case with The Body Shop, and after sniffing all of their available balms, I decided on the Born Lippy and hurried out of there before making my wallet any more depressed.

PRICE: $8.00 at The Body Shop

PACKAGING: A little plastic clear tub with a screw-on lid. On top of the lid is the brand and product name written pretty small with a picture of a watermelon that kind of looks like a drawing you’d see in a Kindergarten classroom, and that makes it cute.

TEXTURE/GLIDE: Generally, I would hate the idea of sticking my finger into a little pot and getting balmy mess all over my finger, wasting however much of the lip balm by wiping it off on my pants or skirt or blanket or cat or whatever happens to be in reach at the time. But surprisingly, this is really nice. A little definitely goes a long way, and it kind of slides right off your finger onto your lips, leaving very little residue left on your finger. You have to be extra careful not to apply too much pressure when in the little pot, though, unless you want a finger covered in watermelon-y balm. The texture on the lips is amazing. I’d expect it to be sticky, honestly, but it’s really creamy.

SMELL/FLAVOR: This is why I bought this in the first place. I bought the Watermelon, and of all the scents (in the Born Lippy, they also have Raspberry and Cooling Mint on the website — not too sure about their in-store selection), this was the one most appealing to me. Some watermelon scents are too sweet, or too artificial, but this one is perfect. I wouldn’t say it smells exactly like a slice of watermelon, but it smells pretty darn good.

LASTING POWER: A considerable amount of time. I’d say about two hours or so, but I reapply regularly, anyway. You know, just to smell it.

ANYTHING ELSE: I’d just like you all to know that the organic beeswax used in the making of the Born Lippy line is retrieved from the northwestern forests of Zambia. So, I suggest you all rush out to your local Body Shop and buy one of these to help support the families of the beekeepers in northwestern Zambia. ..Go on! Do it!

OVERALL: While I can see why some people might look at this and think, “You spent $8 on that?”, I have convinced myself that this stuff is totally worth every cent. My lips are soft, it smells so freakin’ good, and the watermelon drawing is precious.
