Ganache For Lips

What woman can resist chocolate? ..Okay, I am quite capable of resisting chocolate, but as a woman, can I resist chocolate lip balm? Hell no. Especially not lip balm that is not only scented, or flavored, like chocolate, but is actually made with chocolate.

That is the gimmick that keeps this company going. The fact that it is made with real chocolate. A dessert that stays on your lips, and not on your hips (and I’m a poet, apparently). Sounds pretty appealing, doesn’t it?

Yeah, I thought so, too.

PRICE: $4.00 at Beauty Habit, and pretty much everywhere else this stuff is found.

PACKAGING: Here we have the standard tube. Nothing too fancy, other than the busy design around the cap. The drawing of what appears to be a serving of chocolate mousse, or perhaps pudding, is cute, and the brand label isn’t huge but it’s noticable. But honestly? The only thing I notice is that cap. I don’t want to say it bothers me, but.. It bothers me. Don’t ask why. It just does.

TEXTURE/GLIDE: Let me be clear with you. This is not the first that I have owned from this company, but the first one I owned is no longer with me (may it rest in peace), and I honestly can’t even remember what flavor it was. I recalled the texture being smooth and creamy, and pretty much — dare I say it — perfect. I repurchased another variety after recalling the deliciousness of my first one, and let’s just say it’s nothing like I remember it being. The texture is gritty, and has zero glide. No exaggeration whatsoever. ZERO. I tug, and I am left with nothing but a thin layer of what feels like fine cat litter on my lips. Ew, yes. Very ew.

SMELL/FLAVOR: Looking back on my first, I recall it smelling lovely. Just like what it said it was (and I wish that I could remember what, exactly, it was). However, my dreams were shattered with this little gem. Being a lover of chocolate and raspberry scents/flavors, I purchased the Chocolate Raspberry. And does it smell anything like chocolate with raspberries? Of course not. The only way I can describe what this smells like is if you opened up a packet of Swiss Miss hot chocolate powder mix, and took a good whiff, and there you have it. There is no trace whatsoever of raspberries, or actual creamy chocolate, for that matter. Just chocolate powder. And if that’s what “all natural gourmet lip balm” smells like, I’ll pass.

LASTING POWER: What little bit of grit I could actually get onto my lips lasted a fairly reasonable amount of time. That is, before I got tired of having a sandbox on my mouth and wiped it off.

OVERALL: I’m confused by this lip balm. Prior to purchasing, I read countless reviews on Makeup Alley and Chaptastic, most of which were reasonably positive. My experience, however, has been far from positive. I’ll even go so far as to say that it’s been pretty depressing, actually. My guess? I got a dud, but that knowledge isn’t going to stop me from giving this a..

  • Dear Reviewer:

I just came across this review. I wish you had contacted me about this problem, and I would have sent you a replacement. We had a product recall a while back because of just this issue. The lip balm was overheated which caused the shea butter to “crystallize” when cooling. That has since been resolved. Can’t explain the lack of respberry aroma in yours. It’s very clear in the others. I’ll be happy to send you out a replacement if you can send me your mailing address.

    Best wishes,
