Crazy Rumors

I had ordered from Crazy Rumors some time ago, and ended up with something I’d like to call a “dud”. There was something just plain ol’ nasty about this lip balm. It had a funky smell, it had a nasty taste, the texture was pretty gross.. At first I thought it was just a bad company, but then I read quite a few positive reviews over at Makeup Alley, and decided that I needed to give them another shot. ‘Cause fair is fair.

PRICE: $4.00 at Crazy Rumors

PACKAGING: Your standard tube, with a cute label of either a coffee mug, a tea cup, an ice cream cone, or a candy cane (depending on what series you purchase from), accompanied by a suitable font for each series. Nicely designed, but a little busy, with all their ingredient listings, cruelty free notices, vegan signs, and several different fonts for every single one of those things I just listed. But the stuff that you do notice right off the bat (the picture and the flavor label) is very pleasant, and nicely designed. Okay, moving along!

TEXTURE/GLIDE: Here we have a “stubborn balm”. We all know what that is. That type of balm that just doesn’t want to get going right away, and you have to persuade it a little, perhaps with a cookie or a piece of chocolate cake. But once you get this baby going, it’s nice and smooth. I won’t say it’s the smoothest glide I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying, but it’s okay. Nothing really to complain about. The texture is, again, okay. Pretty light, pretty smooth, but alas, not perfect. But as Barney taught us, nobody is perfect, and everybody is special in his or her own way. So, I will accept this balm for what it is, and move along.

SMELL/FLAVOR: This would probably be the thing I love most about this balm. I own five flavors: Irish Cream (from the Perk line), Pear & Peppermint (from the limited edition Candy Cane line), Orange Creamsicle, Banana Split (both from the Ala Mode line), and Apple Spice (from the Brew line). Firstly, let me say that my Irish Cream is my dud. It smells absolutely nothing like Irish Cream, but I have heard plenty of good things about this flavor, so I was safely assume that mine isn’t meant to smell this way. Pear & Peppermint is good. The peppermint scent is mild and pleasant, and I’m not entirely sure if it’s actually pear that I’m smelling, but it’s definitely fruit and it’s good. Orange Creamsicle is exactly like an orange creamsicle, and Banana Split is exactly like a banana split (although I’m not much of a fan of Banana Split — the nutty smell is too much for me). Apple Spice is, by far, my favorite that I own. A perfect blend of apple and spices. It reminds me of Fall, and really makes me hate that it’s Winter right now.. Le sigh..

LASTING POWER: The lasting power is really good. Longest lasting balm ever, no, but it’s not half bad. I’d say a few hours or so before you have to reapply.

ANYTHING ELSE: This balm is 100% vegan, and I have to hand it to them.. Very rarely do I come across a vegan balm that isn’t completely disgusting.

OVERALL: It’s a good balm. I wouldn’t say the best balm ever, but the flavors are good, and it’s vegan, and that deserves some credit.

  • I am stupidly in love with Crazy Rumors. They have the most unique flavors/scents and they are my absolute favorite when it comes to vegan balms. Their ‘Brew’ balms are my favorite; ‘Peppermint Lemongrass’ and ‘Orange Bergamot’ are FANTABULOUS. I am also in love with their plain ol’ ‘Coffee Bean’ flavor.  (Quote)

  • they do have unique flavors- but you can’t top Ella Dean as far as the most unique!  (Quote)
