Bonne Bell Lip Lites

Bonne Bell Lip Lites

Ah, nostalgia.. That’s the way I feel when I look at, uh, pretty much anything Bonne Bell puts out. There’s just something about the whole company that screams, “BUY ME AND REVISIT YOUR TWELVE YEAR OLD SELF!” Now typically, any inanimate object that says that to you is more than likely a piece of poop (and if any inanimate object says anything to you, you have bigger problems than buying a gloss from your childhood), but that’s very much not the case with these.

And by the way, I want to thank my pal Marie for supplying me with these. I couldn’t find them anywhere in the vicinity of my house, and she was so kind as to send me the two that I have. Thank you, Marie.

PRICE: $3.50 at Bonne Bell, or for around that price at many stores that sell Bonne Bell products (drugstores, Target-like stores, etc.)

PACKAGING: This is a .26oz tube o’ gloss. The tube, when looking at it from the top, appears to have a more oval shape instead of the typical round shape or the occasional square. The front features the “lipLITES” logo, and the flavor name along with a little picture to go along with the flavor name. Flip it over, and you see that the back features the Bonne Bell logo, and some info about the company. Twist off the cap, and you’ll see that the applicator is your typical doe-foot, sponge-tip gloss applicator, which I know some people aren’t too keen on but I really don’t mind care either way. Okay, so honestly, this tube really doesn’t have a whole lot goin’ on, but whatevs. It’s nostalgic for me and that alone makes me feel warm ‘n fuzzy when I look at this.

TEXTURE/GLIDE: The glide from sponge-tip to lip is a pretty pleasant one. I do find that the wand doesn’t really pick up a whole lot of product, so I have to dip twice to cover my lips in gloss, but that’s not the biggest deal. The texture is nice. Not too thick, not too light, and to me, not really sticky at all. A teeny bit of tackiness, maybe, but definitely not sticky.

SOFTEN/SOOTHE: It moisturizes very well. I can’t say it soothes at all, though, but most glosses don’t. In my experience, anyway.

SHINE/COLOR: This gloss does leave a hint of tint and it certainly is glossy (hence the name, duh). One of these days I’ll get my camera up and running again.

SMELL/FLAVOR: Of the many flavors available, I have two: Vanilla Swirl and Cream Pop. Vanilla Swirl is a sickeningly sweet vanilla scent. Very artificial, as most Bonne Bell flavors usually are. Cream Pop is a sweet, artificial, orange-y scent. Neither flavors smells a whole lot like what they “should” smell like, and honestly, Bonne Bell is the only company I can think of who can get away with that. I’ll even say that these are kinda nauseating, but in the most comforting sort of way.

LASTING POWER: Not too long. Maybe an hour or so, give or take.

INGREDIENTS: Can’t find a list of ingredients, but I’m telling you, there’s nothing natural about these.

OVERALL: So, maybe this review was a bit unfair. It is a surprisingly good gloss, but the scents are awful and the packaging is boring. However, despite the way they stink and the packaging, these really do bring me back and the formula is pretty superb for a great price. That’s why these get what they get.

What do you think?

Yay or Nay?

I had a ton of these things once upon a time. I remember some of them being kind of sticky, but maybe they’ve changed the formula since then. Back then, all the good flavors always had colors that looked really unnatural on me, and the colors that might look good had icky flavors. I do remember a gold one and a raspberry one and I was in love with them both, but they don’t seem to make those anymore. I also seem to remember a problem where a few of my containers broke and would ooze gloss onto stuff in my bag. It looks like they’ve changed the packaging a bit, though, so hopefully nobody will have that problem now. oh, memories of middle school!  (Quote)
