I have mentioned a time or two before that I am a big fan of the smaller, lesser known companies. I love giving the little guys some publicity and a chance to shine amongst the big boys, especially considering that I find most of these “little guys” do a much better job of making a quality lip product than the “big goys” do. They’re not so focused on getting crap out there, and are much more focused on making something that actually works.
And that was my little rant for the day. On to the review.
PRICE: $3.00 at Bidwell Botanicals
PACKAGING: Your average size tube, of course. Have I ever mentioned that I love clear tubes? Probably not. Well, I do. And this is a clear tube, obviously. A very nice clear tube with a very nicely designed label. Nothing too fancy about it, but what it does have is nice. Nice fonts, nice brand logo.. Okay, there really isn’t much to say about it, but I like it. The list of ingredients isn’t too long, but it’s not easy to read either. But hey, I’m blind. Can’t really take my word for it.
TEXTURE/GLIDE: This is my one complaint about this balm. It takes a lot to get the glide going. At first, it really doesn’t want to budge. It’s tough and you think that you’re never gonna get to use it. But after a few tugs, it reluctantly glides on. It’s definitely one of those balms you need to use a few times to get it working properly, but even still, it’s a tad tough. The texture on the lips, though, is pretty nice. A little heavy, but smooth and creamy. Not bad at all. I just wish it was a little easier getting there in the first place.
SMELL/FLAVOR: I have this in Acai Berry (also available in Cranberry, Hot Chocolate, Lime Margarita, Peppermint Silk, Pomegranate, and Spun Sugar). I chose this because, well, I’ve never had an acai berry balm before and I was curious. I’m glad I went with it. It’s a very sweet berry scent. I can’t really describe it any other way. It’s very good, and I’m very much a fan. I’d like to give one of the other flavors a shot sometime. Spun Sugar anyone? Mmm..
LASTING POWER: Due to the heavy texture of the balm, it lasts a good long time. About two and a half to three hours. Maybe even more, if you chose not to drink or eat anything for awhile.
INGREDIENTS: You can check out the ingredients here. Just hover over the “ingredients” link below the “How To Use” section.
OVERALL: I love the look, I love the smell, and I love the feel once it’s on my lips. I just wish it wasn’t so tough applying in the first place.
